Visual White Noise Theater: Take the unholy Sacrament…”Religion Sauvage” (2004)

Did your blotter acid go bad? Does your stomach not like shrooms? Are you still pissed at your parents for making you go to church instead of playing video games on Sunday? Are you fucking sick of these questions? I am and here is the white noise remedy.

“Hopital Brut” only kicked you in the head, “Religion Sauvage” breaks your nose and kicks you in the nuts so hard they go up into your throat. The French art collective, Le Dernier Cri, put together another collection of animated shorts based on another one of their comics “Religion Sauvage”, which is critical of religious belief, that not only includes Jesus, Satan, Allah, Krishna etc. It also includes being critical of people who worship sex, drugs and rock n’ roll, like Gods.

Featuring underground artists from around the world doing animated shorts like on “Hopital Brut” people like Mike Diana, Stu Mead, Tochka, Melted Men, Valium etc. this smorgasbord of degeneracy will make your head spin and your mouth water. Most of these artists don’t ever do animation, they do paintings, comics, and drawings. This collection rapes you, cuts off your head and has sex with it and it isn’t pleasant.

This is “Liquid Television” for adults, and “Liquid Television” was made for adults!!! There is piss, shit, sex, useless violence, dumb racism, sacrilege, Lolita complexes etc. This will piss off every person of every stripe. This white noise doesn’t give one fuck about your sensibilities or feels. “Religion Sauvage” cuts your feels into tiny, bloody pieces, devours them and shits them out. The gif above was taken from the Stu Mead segment, Stu normally paints and draws and this is one of his paintings put into animation, the dude has been crippled from the day he was born and has a Lolita Complex, his short is like something from a 1920’s stop motion film made by the people who manufacture nightmares.

Like “Hopital Brut”, “Sauvage” will make your heart race and make you confused, beware, this visual noise can be disorienting, and I am telling you drug heads out there right now, DO NOT DO ANYTHING WATCHING THIS. Seriously, I don’t do substances like that anymore (only caffeine) and I can tell you watching this on anything will be really unpleasant.

Some shorts will make you laugh, some will make you angry, some will make you want to scour your eyes out with a Brillo pad, some will make you cry and some will make you break the device your watching “Religion Sauvage” on. These are all good things when any piece of art will make you feel that way. Do I agree with the message? I don’t talk politics or religion on my blog unless its part of the content of the piece of noise I am reviewing. So yeah none of your damn business, I could be a frothing at the mouth atheist who thinks all the digs at religion are great or I could be a closet Jesus Freak who bristles at the content but loves the art. But I am not telling you which one I am.

With this collection you get every variety of animation: Stop motion, regular cell animation, claymation etc. as well as live action segments, all meant to provoke. This thing spits in your face and wants you to punch back hard, it provokes but it also makes things interesting. Two hours is the run time of this thing and I wasn’t bored for one second, my jaw was on the floor for almost all of its running time. Again, like “Hopital Brut” which I reviewed prior (review of “Hopital Brut” and link to watch it here https://www.noisepuncher.net/2020/11/29/short-s-hit-list-hospital-brut-1999/), it sometimes gets into “pretentious up its ass” art snob territory but than it pulls itself back from precipice of art student assholery.

The nightmare logic of this collection drifts in and out of beauty, ugliness, hilarity, brutality and the unbelievable. This is one of these collections that if I drifted off to sleep during watching it and woke up I’d wondered if I’d actually dreamed or actually saw it on this compilation. Is that a plus for this visual noise? Maybe, depends on you as a person. I found this on a external hard drive my buddy gave me of weird short films, holy shit, isn’t the right word.

So should you dive headlong into this visual noise? Will you drown in it? Will you drink it up and have your tastes satisfied? Or will you spit it out in disgust? This thing isn’t for the squeamish, watch at your own risk.

To watch this go to:https://www.bitchute.com/video/kkgzSpSyJIKB/

There is physical copies with artwork and I urge you to actually support this art collective Le Dernier Cri and buy a copy, I am and they actually have one more hour of footage on the DVD version:http://www.lederniercri.org/prod/sauvages-religions-820,4.html

White Noise Eardrum Buster: All hail “Svaty Vincent” (1990)

“Svaty Vincent” translated from Czech is “Saint Vincent” and no its not the Saint Vincent who is a hipster, “indie musician” who looks like a super model, this “Saint Vincent” looks like Anton La Vey, believes he is a saint, believes he is from outer space and makes messed up music. Fellow noise travelers here is a twisted and strange journey for you to get into…

“Svaty Vincent” the self titled 1990 album is very hard to find in any format. Again it was like trying to find a needle in a haystack, luckily on discogs a seller had it stateside so it came fast. On discogs they list this album’s genre as “noise rock”, but its way deeper than that, while there is screeching feed back and weird song structures it cuts deep into experimental black metal territory. I found out about this artist when I listened to the compilation album “Incredibly Strange Metal” (you can find my review of the “Incredibly Strange Metal” comp here https://www.noisepuncher.net/2020/12/27/incredibly-strange-metal-that-stopped-living-and-became-mixed-up-music/ ), his track was so unhinged and so insane I had to find out more about the artist.

So I stumbled into the now defunct Obscuro blog and found a review and download link for the self titled album, unfortunately the link was dead and then I knew I’d have to look for the needle in the haystack. As you can tell from the album art, the cover, lyric book and back screamed “Black Metal” aesthetic with its black and white cover and cheap packaging. The Obscuro blog calls it metal and I call it metal, this isn’t Jesus Lizard or Happy Flowers type noise rock stuff. The album sounds like a live recording of a performance, it sounds as if Quorthon of Bathory decided to go in a more jazz, improvisational, experimental direction. This shit is insane, this music just explodes into chaos and wrecks destruction, here and there a synth comes in and at one point nature recordings of birds and wind slow down the music. This is white noise you can get drunk on.

The CD copy I got had “Rick” written on it, HA! HA! That isn’t my name. I was glad to even get a copy of this thing, Svaty Vincent’s back story is strange and probably mostly made up or he really believes this stuff about himself. I had to use google translate and go on Czech sites to find out more about him, even then it was sparse info but here goes, so apparently he was widely known in the Czech Republic, he claims he is 2,500 years old, that he is the third divine incarnation, the ruler of the universe and the terrible beast from Saint John’s Revelation, he claims  that he is Lucifer and the Angel of Death, he claims he was investigated by the CIA and NASA, he claims he immigrated to the US in 1980 and was confined to a insane asylum, he says he had a hand in the death of the Soviet Communist Party leader Brezhnev, telepathically lead President Reagan, claimed he mentally started Vietnam and directed the bombing of Hiroshima. Yep this guy made music, he said Prague was the mystical center of the universe and that: “My embalmed body will one day be placed in a glass pyramid in the second courtyard of Prague Castle and pilgrims from all over the world will worship me. My huge statue, blessing Prague, will be erected on the Letna Plain. “

Also a book of his holy sayings was published in the early 1990’s. This guy didn’t care what others thought of him, this is ultimate “outsider music” and you most definitely want to listen to this stuff, it will enrich your life and existence.

Short (S)hit List: Double Feature!!! “Electric Flesh” and “Joanna Died and Went Hell” (1996), what a Brummer!!!

Time to get disturbed, so disturbed you end up in a padded room with a special jacket. It will be a “Brummer” but you will enjoy every fucking minute of it.

Both these twisted shorts are directed by Eric Brummer, this stop motion ain’t for kids. Eyes pop out, clay gets shot, women go topless, industrial metal music screams in the background, winged skulls cackle in glee and you know your in for it. It looks like these shorts were shot back to back.

First off, “Electric Flesh” is shot in color, it has a semi plot of clay zombies attacking live action women, the rest is skull fuck imagery of robots, heads coming apart on stakes, and skulls with wings.

It is short and sweet, if this had carried on for an hour it would’ve made me angry and want to pour water all over my external hard drive. This is the type of stuff my generation, Gen X, used to churn out in the 1990’s, a lot of them tried to be “edgy” and “nihilistic”, of course a majority of experimental “underground” shorts were up their own ass, pretentious, uninteresting, puerile garbage but there was shorts like these also, the more coal there is, the more diamonds your likely to find which is why I didn’t mind this proliferation of underground stuff back in the day.

So with “Electric Flesh” I was driving at 100 mph, now time to shift into super fucking HIGH GEAR.

“Joanna Died and Went to Hell” starts out with this “There once was a young girl from Nantucket who took too many pills and kicked the bucket”. This girl descends into hell and is kidnapped by “Dark Strangers”.

Shot in black and white this thing is actually effective. I remember first watching this years ago on video tape, it was late out and dark. I was a little high and drunk but it creeped me the hell out, of course watching it now I am not as creeped out. It looks like “Hell” was filmed in Brummer’s one bed room apartment.

Again Brummer mixes live action with stop motion. In Jack Sargeant’s “Cinema Contra Cinema” book Eric Brummer said this about set design, “You can take any space and make hell out of it by sprinkling body parts all over the place and writing “Hell” on the wall.” HA! HA! Yep that sums up the set design of “Joanna Died and Went to Hell”.

Joanna gets loose from her bonds and finds a gun on one of the corpses and shoots the S and M leather demons who don’t die but become clay zombies. I love this fucking short, you get to see Joanna’s tits at the beginning, the horny thirteen year old in me loves that. Stop motion and tits make everything better.

The winged skull from “Electric Flesh” makes an appearance as a demon who wants a special box, he tells Joanna if she gets the box for him he will transport her soul to another realm and… watch the damn thing I don’t want to ruin it for you. Experience it for yourself and move down the page to the link.

“Joanna Dies and Goes to Hell” is a more cohesive short than “Electric Flesh”, in fact, Brummer later went on to do a full length of his “Joanna” short called “Debbie Does Damnation” (see it here: https://www.noisepuncher.net/2021/06/07/debbie-does-damnation-1999-and-i-wish-she-would-do-me/ ) it was produced by Donald G. Jackson who did “Hell Comes to Frogtown”. Brummer did one more “regular” short before plunging dick deep into porn, what a Brummer (sorry I can’t help myself I know you are wanting to punch me in the throat for my puns). Guess the tits weren’t enough, in fact, there is rumors there is a hardcore version of “Debbie Does Damnation” but I haven’t been able to find it anywhere. Anyways, there is really no online info on Eric, he doesn’t have a site that sells stuff but he still directs, produces and acts in porn. Anyways to watch both these disasterpieces go to:

White Noise on Paper: Enjoy the scenery on “Crystal Bone Drive”.

Want to trade your heart with tentacles for money? Then come on down to the Crystal Bone exchange, just make sure you don’t  cough out your lungs, artificial or organic, in the poisoned atmosphere getting over here. That is “Crystal Bone Drive” in a nutshell. Drawn by Japanese artist Tetsunori Tawaraya with silver ink on Plike black paper this 7″x9″, 32 pages of visual white noise pummels your eyes until you can’t take it no more. Published by Hollow Press in limited quantities, this biomechanical nightmare will draw you into its silver dark world. Flesh morphs into motorcycles, giant slugs with razor sharp teeth attack, metal and flesh combine in a grotesque beauty.

Tetsu is also lead singer and vocalist for noise band 2up, he has been active drawing since the late 1990’s, mainly messed up sci fi comics. His art is in a lot of publications and his drawing style is really distinct, flowing, fine lines twisted into various shapes, all of his worlds seem populated by mutants, most hybrids of machinery and flesh.

Its refreshing to see a Japanese artist not rehash traditional Manga art all the time, don’t get me wrong that has its proper artistic place but sometimes it becomes redundant. I love artists both audio and visual that craft noise that takes me to another world, this comic does this. I thumb through it occasionally marveling at its grotesque beauty, I have two other works by Testu which I will review in the future. If you can get a hold of his stuff, do it, the problem is that a lot of his stuff is printed in limited quantities. It kind of pisses me off when publishers do this, it seems like a “hipster-up-its-ass” move that lots of people can’t enjoy that world but it is what it is and a lot of these small publishers don’t have a lot of money to burn they can’t all print 10,000 copies of something all the time.

To find “Crystal Bone Drive” your gonna have to hit up ebay. However here is Tetsu’s site he has some stuff for sale up there: https://tetsunoritawaraya.com/

Visual White Noise Theater: Wanna play…”Possum” (2018)?

We’ve all had that crazy uncle, you know the one that tells bad jokes when he is drunk, gives you noogies, gives you a nickel by pretending to pull one from behind your ear, the one that verbally and psychologically abuses you and spanks your bare…what?! Yes that one.

The atmosphere of this visual white noise is cold, wet, dark and dreary, it seeps into your bones and settles there for a very long time. I am really weary of watching modern horror movies, I am fucking sick of re makes, cheap jump scares, too clean of a picture, overuse of CGI etc., you know, fucking shit like “Annabelle” and “Insidious”. I want more in my horror movies, “Possum” delivers a knock out punch. Its pretty much a two man show between actors Sean Harris and character actor Alun Armstrong (who you’ve seen in almost everything). Sean plays Philip who is puppeteer that got fired from a kid’s show and he lives with his uncle (Alun) and has lived with him for years after his parents died. The acting from both is superb, from Sean the hurt and constant confusion in his eyes and from Alun a bully who mainly uses psychology and verbal attacks that inflict more abuse than anything physical.

They are both puppeteers and puppet makers, Philip has a spider puppet with a human head he calls “Possum” that goes missing for periods of time and comes back, Philip tries getting rid of it, dumping it in the forest, burning it etc. It keeps coming back, meanwhile, a local boy who got off the same train as Philip goes missing and the community suspects Philip. His uncle needles him about it and rubs it in accusing him of the disappearance of the boy.

Written and directed by Matthew Holness the guy who wrote, directed and acted in the great “Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place” TV show, the movie is based on one of his short stories. This movie is more of a psychological horror movie. The puppets are reflections of puppeteers and their psyches, there is other characters in the movie but their really minor to the two main characters. Holness has said his inspirations for the film were old British Public Information films, George Romero’s “Martin” and German expressionist films, all those influences can be seen in this thing. The dark and dreary atmosphere is also its own character in the movie, the house they live in is dirty but it isn’t cluttered, books and papers sit neatly in stacks which, for some reason unnerved me even more, it was as if the uncle was trying to mask his insanity behind the clutter being orderly but you could still see it was clutter, the uncle presented himself as sane but he was anything but. I don’t want to spoil it for you if you haven’t seen it.

So where does one play “Possum”? Well, for one if you have amazon prime you can watch it there, there is also other “Pirates in the ocean” that can help you if you get my drift. I’d say reward the creator by buying his movie. This movie shows there is still a lot of good horror movies out there, you just have to know where to look. Wanna play “Possum”?

Short (S)Hit List: Dawn of an Evil Millennium 1988

Ever seen a twenty minute trailer? Get ready because here it comes…in your face. Visual white noise, time to get the descrambler.

Shot on super 8 by Damon Packard in 1988 and made for film school as a trailer to a 18 hour movie, this thing has small cameos from Miles O’ Keefe (Ator) and Ronald Lacey (Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark, he played creepy dude with glasses who has the best face melting scene ever). This “trailer” is 20 minutes long, two words, FUCKING INSANE.

This short film doesn’t disappoint or bore, its like a strange horror/sci fi hybrid with frenetic pacing, jump cuts, pitch shifted voices, neon explosions, super imposed space ships, sped up footage and vomiting of liquids of various colors. I stumbled upon this when going through that external hard drive my buddy gave me of strange short films.

So a demon comes to earth to conquer it in the year 1999, the demon splits in two, one is good and the other is bad. The bad one drives a super powered 1970 Olds Mobile and two cops are after him. Not much makes sense in this thing and it can become disconcerting, all this made me creeped out by it on the first watch. Its original and it is trying to parody the straight to VHS movies of the time, on further watches I was chuckling. This is one all noise addicts need to watch. A cornucopia of madness made by desperate people.

To check out go to: https://www.bitchute.com/video/QisLKkSKCRks/

Damon is still active he has a youtube channel, don’t like to link to youtube because I don’t like them but I do like Damon and I like the fact the dude is still working and hasn’t given up: https://www.youtube.com/user/pookie67/videos

White Noise Eardrum Buster: Their sick their twisted and they hate…emos. “Fuckemos-Lifestyles of the Drugged and Homeless” 1995 CD

Fucked up, modulated vocals. Check. Stupid, creepy, juvenile lyrics. Check. Cheesy synths. Check. Trombone solos. Check. Fat druggy metal chords. Check. Violins. Check. INSANITY. uh, check. All packed in a cardboard stock case with booklet full of retro porn and the band members in Gestapo get ups, you know your in for a offensive, rippin’ n’ roarin’ good time.

cover

Huge fan of this band and I am planning on doing a review of all of their other albums. Of course I like bands that are weird and demented, it is one of my biggest criteria for checking out a band. The Fuckemos are from Austin, Texas the same breeding ground that spawned the Dicks, the awesome Butthole Surfers, Roky Erickson etc. The band started with the moniker “Warthog 2001UK” after a security guard pissed off the one of the founders of the band, Russell Porter, at a club called Emos, he changed the band name to “Fuckemos” of course this name was prophetic since everybody fucking hates emos.

2nd Cover panel

San Francisco poster artist, Frank Kozik, became interested and signed them to his record label, “Man’s Ruin Records” and released their first album. Their follow up, which I am posting up here, was put out on another poster artist, Lidnsay Kuhn’s record label “No Lie Records”. Why I am posting this is because this the CD version, the new downloadable and vinyl versions differ I will get into that later. I got into this band by listening to their first album, it both blew my mind and made me laugh hard. The pitch shifted, tone deaf vocals, the silly trombone solos, the cheesy Casio keyboard tones, offensive lyrics, and fat guitar chords made me want to find out more. Which lead me to try to find this album.

Back Cover

Finding this was a pain in the ass, this was years ago when Fuckemos hadn’t put up their bandcamp page and there was no plans to release this. Every time I’d travel I’d go to the local used music shops to find this thing, couldn’t find it anywhere until I asked a guy at a record store in Portland if he had this anywhere. He had it in back, I was overjoyed and as soon as I got in my car I put it on. The music washed over me like stale beer and bad pot. “AMEN!!!” I yelled. Another needle found in the haystack.

The CD came in a plastic sleeve with a cardboard stock fold out cover pictures of which I posted, when unfolding it you have to be careful because the CD will pop out, it isn’t a CD R, its a actual, manufactured CD, the booklet is printing stock which I am also posting. The new vinyl and download versions don’t have the cool cover tunes on them probably due to copy right issues which is a damn shame because their fucking hilarious and well done.

The first song “Ed the Creep” is about  one of the founders of the band, Ed Rancourt, the first track is full sludge metal chords and “the down in the dumps pitch shifted” vocals their famous for. “Hurtin” features pop punk chord progressions and a silly trombone floating through it. “Lingerie Dreams” is a song built on a steady drum beat and piping synth set to creepy lyrics. “Tokyo” I know for a fact is cover, I’ve heard this one before somewhere, maybe I am wrong, but this song is straight ahead metal and so are the lyrics, pedal to the fucking metal, this is one track I put on repeat.

“Ready to Drop” is a stoned out, grooved out song about getting a chick pregnant (at least I think it is) those pitch shifted vocals. HA! HA! HA! They make the fucking song. The band takes on Abba’s “Dancin’ Queen” stoner metal style, they make the song pathetic and depressing as opposed to being upbeat and poppy. “Be Nice Don’t Be Mean” is a song about the band being mean to the venues that host them and the fans that show up to their shows, this one has me in stitches every time I hear it, the vocals, the keyboard and the trombone are the only instruments on this track. “Sometimes we make the sound guy mad, sometimes that makes us really sad.” It is a mournful tune that is done in a different style and faster on the self titled follow up, I like the version on this CD better.

“Pro Choice (Life is Murder)” would be a Weezer song if the lead singer had pitch shifted vocals and sang about wanting people dead. “Vietnambla” is thick chord metal stomp in your face about…the underage, if you haven’t figured that out yet by the title I can’t help you. “Mexico” is mournful and dusty dirge, thick and slow chords, slow drums pattering and a crying violin, I love this song and I can get deep into it, one of the reasons I love this band, these guys are geniuses.

“Speedo” is a scum metal screed about gay clubs that only let men in who wear speedos. The lyrics are offensive, juvenile and stupid… in other words good. “Print Your Own Damn Album Covers” is a song consisting of screaming, no vocals, grunting and a galloping, sludgy metal breakdown, I guess this is the way the lead singer felt when he went to Kinkos and asked if they would print the covers for him and they told him no, he’d have to do it himself. “Toby the Neuter” is song about a person born without sex organs that starts with  trombone, squealing guitar and synth then degenerates into metal punk sludge insanity. “Wet My Beddy Boo Boo” goes straight into hair metal guitar territory with the lyrics consisting of a tough guy talking about how bad ass he is and then…talking about wetting his bed. “Love is Like Oxygen” is a cover song from classic glam band Sweet, with a wailing synth behind slow dirgy chords, love this cover, too bad none of these are on the newer releases. “Pretty Flowers” has a strange wailing and thin guitar backing it which gives the song a hypnotic quality, that hypnosis is snapped by the weird lyrics and the tone deaf, modulated vocals. Hell yes. “Fuckemos Smoke Cigarettes” is a song made up of cut up, weird electronic sounds and pieces of the other songs stitched together, probably meant to be a song for the ravers of 1995…if retards held raves. “Lucifer” is a song consisting of not only the vocals but the guitars being fed through a manipulator that sounds as if bees are buzzing around your ears, the song is played slow, it is a creepy stoner metal song, the “creepy” that will make you laugh, like those kids who try to dress up creepy and edgy but end up looking goofy. “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” is a cover of the infamous song by deathrock giants, Bauhaus, played faster and with thicker chords, despite this they keep the creepy vibe going. We end with “Three Wine Colors” a live recording by the sound of it, a straight ahead punk song without pitch shifted vocals, my least favorite song. Over all, this is one you should search out, especially the Fuckemos fanatics out there. The vinyl and download releases don’t have the covers and leave out some tracks. I’ll leave links to them but be warned.

White Noise on Paper: Going to “Scarfolk”, gonna disappear…

Imagine your in England. Imagine your driving through the beautiful country side and you come upon a strange town. Imagine that this strange town has people, places, signs and things stuck in the 1970’s. Imagine you ask directions to a restaurant and the guy who points the way is missing a hand and leg. Imagine you walk into this restaurant where the cashier behind the counter has clown make up. Imagine that you order a soda, you drink the whole thing and feel funny. Imagine you end up ground up in between two buns and then you’ll know what it is like to peruse “Discovering Scarfolk, For Tourists and Other Trespassers” by Richard Littler.

Richard Littler is a graphic designer and started making joke cards for family friends parodying those old Penguin book covers, he posted them on his blog and got a huge response. I first stumbled on his work on tumblr and the art work looked so authentic I thought that they were actual book covers. When I went looking for the books themselves so I could add more to my weirdo book collection, “Scarfolk” came up and then I had a treasure trove of satirical book covers, ads and public service announcements to devour.

The book is like one of those hardbound tourist guides, Littler’s artwork is throughout the book, what ties this book together is a father who goes looking for his twin sons when they go missing in Scarfolk. In Scarfolk everything is assbackwards, and time doesn’t pass there either, the whole town is stuck in the 1970’s. Littler also wrote scripts for movies, he merged his artwork with his story telling abilities to hilarious result.

Some of the humor will be lost on people who aren’t from Britain. There is a lot of cultural humor and the British Dry wit, but despite that the book had me in stitches. It is satire sharpened to very fine point, one can see his lampooning of the surveillance state and people too stuck in the past to move forward. At times it becomes nightmarish, the father in desperation not being able to get answers about his kid from people that seem bat shit crazy from the mayor (which is the author) on down to the local garbage collector, it becomes so surreal and dark you bust up laughing.

He is still producing stuff. He has a youtube channel with Scarfolk ads and music on it, he has a blog which I will link to, and he has another book “The Scarfolk Annual” which I have and will review sometime. Artists who create noise and harness it into a world of their own are my favorite people, they make life worth living. “Discovering Scarfolk” gets two severed thumbs up from me, old boy.

Richard isn’t the only artist to do this, there is a lot of artists that are lampooning retro book cover art but they aren’t as funny as Richard is. I love just picking up the book and randomly selecting a section, and it normally puts a smile on my face that something like this exists.

So do you wanna go to Scarfolk?! Do you really REALLY want to go? Do you want to be chased by stapler demons? Given a ticket for keeping your eyes open and wasting “electricity”? Do you wanna probably end up as some person’s plastic sheet covered furniture? Then the way to get there is here:

Richard Littler’s blog: https://scarfolk.blogspot.com/

Where to get the book: https://www.amazon.com/Discovering-Scarfolk-Richard-Littler/dp/0091958482

Hate fucking youtube but Richard’s videos are too good to pass up: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1t7KxXy44QC5qC1R0h53Mg

Now…disappear!!!

Visual White Noise Theater: “Haunted School/Gakko No Kaidan” (1995)

So you go into the abandoned wing of your Japanese school, you hear strange knocks and howls. What do you do next? So do you turn around and walk out the door, turn to page 15 or do you go and investigate the strange noises, turn to page 63. If it were me I would turn to page 15 but none of these kids will do this.

So first the sister of one of the characters goes into the abandoned wing and becomes lost, her brother comes looking for her and some of the bad kids are in there where their not supposed to be because that is what bad movie kids do. Their teacher comes looking for them and all hell breaks, a giant girl chases them, a hairy demon with Slimer’s personality makes fun of them, skeletons, and dissected frogs jump at them.

This is a kid’s movie, make no mistake about it. One of my friends called it a cross between “Ghostbusters” and “Goonies”, of course I’d say its more of a “Goosebumps” type tale, the effects, ghosts and monsters were top notch. Damn I really enjoyed this movie, most kids movies I have watched are boring and too sentimental, this one balances the horror with sentiment perfectly.

The movie was done by Toho, the giants who helped push Godzilla into our collective consciousness. This will stomp around in your head like that overgrown lizard. You can watch this with your kids if your kids don’t get bored with sub titles. There was moments that made me laugh, made me sad, made me jump and made me roll my eyes, the eye rolling was kept to a minimum. Apparently this made a lot of yen at the Japanese box office back in the day, 2.55 billion to be exact which is 19 mill in US today’s money.

So in closing to find this baby on DVD you’ll have to go to Japanese amazon and ebay. If you don’t want to go through the trouble, go here:  https://www.bitchute.com/video/USaoF3K4mhrb/

Good luck and don’t go into any abandoned school wings where a girl drowned in a pool or else you’ll get eaten by oversized janitor man insects.

Short (S) Hit list: Hospital Brut 1999

Don’t want to fry on acid? Afraid your gonna do a Diane Linklater dive off a skyscraper thinking that you can fly and the only “scraper” you’ll get is when they peel you off the pavement?! Look no further than the semi short “Hopital Brut”!!! Grrrrr…

Made by the French outsider artist collective, Le Dernier Cri, featuring outsider artists from all around the world from what I can tell “Hopital Brut” is taken from a actual art magazine the collective publishes with numerous contributors.

Some of these artists that are featured in this thing have only painted or drawn pictures and comics, this the first time that I’d seen their art work animated. People like Stu Mead in the gif above and Mike Diana.

As you can see keep kids far away from this, unless you want your kids traumatized for their rest of their short, miserable lives. “Hopital Brut” is visual white noise that may cause epilepsy in some. Every type of animation is utilized in this thing, as well as live action segments, it jumps around a lot and has a loose theme of a insane asylum, the thing is very VERY loose with the theme. The jumping around can be very disconcerting, that is a warning to you.

I found out about this thing because a buddy of mine who collects weird short films gave me a external hard drive full of them. I watched this thing and my jaw dropped, at times it veers into the dangerous “pretentious up its ass” territory but then it cuts right back into horrifying you and making you laugh so hard milk squirts out of your nose (or whatever other liquor your drinking at the time).
